for Public Utility
at Kombirama
Zuerich, 8 to 16 February 1997
I met Peter Spillmann via mail and then in Milano last December. He invited
me to join in the project they was organizing at Kombirama: Public Utility.
During the preparations for the show, Peter asked me what is the organization
supporting Italian artists abroad, in order to send their dossier and get
money for the travel costs. What is the Pro Helvetia of Italy?
I replied "Peter, don't you know that in Italy we have Pro domo sua?
I mean that everybody in Italy stands for his own". So I decided to
found the Institute of Temporary Art, that will open and close several times
during the year.
ITA is a one-man association that provides helpful supports to people who
need a short term assistance during art exhibitions: for instance, allowing
the visitors to enjoy a kindly view of the artworks by supplying them with
soft slippers; or helping the artists before the opening giving a help to
mount installations and going to the bar to get a whiskey-sour.
I am not a gentlemen, simply it's my work of art.
